The Triangle Site, Selly Oak
Initial illustrative view north along Bristol Road

The consultation has now closed. We would like to thank those residents who have taken the time to provide feedback on the proposals. Please click here to view the consultation banners.

The Triangle site was previously occupied by The Oak Cinema from 1924 to 1979 before being redeveloped as a supermarket in 1985. Following the relocation of the Sainsbury’s store to the Selly Oak Shopping Park, the vacant site represents an important regeneration opportunity for Selly Oak as identified in the Supplementary Planning Document 2015.

Hines, an experienced international developer with a track record of delivering high quality developments in Birmingham and across the UK, is proposing to develop a student accommodation scheme under its award winning aparto brand. The scheme will serve the needs of the University of Birmingham and deliver a number of wider benefits for the local community.

Community Space:

The proposed development includes a space for community use. As we discuss with the council and local groups about how this could best be managed in the interests of the community, it would be helpful to understand what sorts of things you might be interested in using it for.

Uses could include:

  • Film nights
  • Bike repair workshops
  • Fitness classes
  • Local drama and musical performances
  • Community group meetings
